With the internet at your fingertips, you have endless sources of inspiraton for your custom design. The inspiration can be as minor as a sleeve detail or as major as an entire gown, or a movie or just a feeling you wish to convey. In the coming weeks I will be sharing some of the custom gowns I have created for inspired customers. Each design has it’s own story, each woman has her story as to how she was inspired and how I then created the garment. The experience is exciting for my customers and very gratifying for me.
My first story is about Ashley. She saw a dress, actually just part of the dress, on Pinterest. She tried to track down the dress, and failing that, decided to try to have it made. The colors and luciousness of the design got her attention because it was perfect for the location of their destination wedding in Italy. We exchanged emails with her photos and my sketches. We made our plans to convert the bridal skirt she found into a version of the dress that had captured her attention. Ashley had the task of finding the colorful silk flowers in the colors and shapes that would be the defining detail of her dress.
Together we decided to keep the bodice design simple. The layers and flounces of silk and tulle of the skirt were then transformed when hundreds of colorful silk peonies were grouped and hand sewn into the folds. Ashley’s inspiraton became a gorgeous one of a kind romantic dress. I don’t know if she bought her gown a seat on the plane, but she got it to Italy without incident, and back for a reception here.
I love making dreams come true.
